Jerome Jacob Kohl, son of Wallace and Caroline (Jaspersen) Kohl, was born November 2, 1907, on a farm two miles south of Ruskin, Nebraska, on the home place. He passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 13 days.
Jerome attended rural schools and graduated from Ruskin High School in 1927. After graduation he attended Coyne Electric School in Chicago, Illinois.
August 20, 1930, at the bride's parents home, near Nora, Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Thayer. This union was blessed with three children.
He worked as a mechanic and was owner/operator of the Kohl Garage for over 50 years in Hardy, Nebraska.
Jerome was a member of the Community Club, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Tehema Shrine Club of Hastings, and the Union Community Church. He was one of the founders of the Union Church. He taught Sunday School and many confirmation classes. Jerome was a great teacher of young people, especially teenage boys. He passed on his knowledge of cars and motorcycles as well as his faith and love of the Bible.
Jerome and Genevieve were generous supporters of many causes with their generous gift giving. He loved parades, kids and motorcycles and was one of the leaders of the community for many years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Wallace Kohl; one brother, Andrew Lars Kohl; and one sister, Viola Kissier.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Kohl of Superior, Nebraska; one son, Jerome J. Kohl and his wife Kay and one daughter, Nancy Grinstead and her husband, Robert, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Kohl of Excelsior Springs, Missour; one sister, Myrna Kohl of North Platte, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Union Church in Hardy, Nebraska, with Pastor Jon Albrecht officiating. Music was "Always", "Abide With Me" and "In The Garden" with JoAnne Edwards as soloist and Heather Dahl as organist and accompanist. Interment was in Spring Creek Cemetery, Ruskin, Nebraska, with Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers were Glenn Edwards, Kenneth Jensby, Kent Bigby, Don Delka, Kenneth Pedersen and Ray Biltoft. Honorary pallbearers were Calvin Hobson, Herb Pedersen, Clyde Cramer, Jack McCorkle, Vern Kaldahl, Marvin Bockholdt and Lee Roy Hansen. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
