Funeral services were held at St Cecilia Catholic Church here Monday morning at nine o'clock for Mrs Annie Otke with burial following at the Church Cemetery.

Mrs Otke had been in failing health for some time but had improved sufficiently to spend the past several weeks with her daughters, Mrs Clara Crider and Miss Lucy Otke at Dixon. She had the misfortune to fall, due to infirmities, early Sunday morning of last week suffering a fracture of the hip and severe shock and developed pneumonia the second day succumbing early the following Friday morning. The body was brought to the home of her daughter, Mrs N J Rowan, with whom she had been residing the past few years from where the funeral was conducted.

Annie Francis (Koehler) Otke was born in St Louis, June 22, 1864 the daughter of John and Francis Koehler and was 83 years, four months and 29 days of age. While visiting relatives at St Thomas she became acquainted with Frank Otke to whom she was united in marriage, at St Thomas, on Feb 18, 1890 and to this union four daughters were born, one having died in infancy (Ida Otke). The surviving daughters are Mrs Clara Crider and Miss Lucy Otke of Dixon and Mrs N J (Rose) Rowan of Meta. The family moved to Meta in the early days of the town, in the fall of 1903, and continued to reside here the remainder of their lives, where Mr Otke was engaged in the milling and lumber business. This remarkable couple celebrated their golden wedding on Feb 18, 1940. Mr Otke retired from active duties at the lumber yard in 1941 and succumbed to an attack of pneumonia on March 20, 1942.

Mrs Otke, though she became feeble physically, put forth great effort to remain interested and alert concerning the activities of the Church and civic activities of the community. She was always a very faithful member of the Catholic Church and a member of St Ann's Ladies Sodality. She maintained a keen interest in all civic activities and at all times manifested a desire for everything that meant better living. It was with much pride that she referred to her friends and the kindness they extended to her. The comfort and happiness of her family was always foremost in her mind and never spared herself a sacrifice where it was needed. In her early life she spent much time in ministering to sick and afflicted in this and surrounding communities. In her passing, the community loses one of its helpful and beloved citizens.

She leaves two sisters, Mrs Clara Hickleheim of St Louis and Mrs A C Washford of Beckemeyer, Illinois, brothers William, Andrew and Theodore Koehler of Wyoming and Frank Koehler of Meta. She also leaves five grand-children and nine great grand-children. The grandchildren are Dr Russell J Crider, St Louis, Harold J Crider, Cape Girardeau, Mrs Helen Marshall, of Clayton, Missouri, Dr W Barry Rowan of Meta, and Dr Robert Rowan of New Orleans, Louisiana.
