MRS. FRED ALMY, 76,
MINOT PIONEER, DIES
FUNERAL WILL BE HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON AT BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH
Death came yesterday to Mrs. Fred Almy, 76, pioneer Minot resident, who bad been ill since September at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Guy E. Almy. of Noonan.
The body was brought to Minot this afternoon and will be at the Thomas-Lereon funeral chapel until, the funeral Monday at 2:30 p. m. in the Bethany Lutheran church.
Mrs. Almy had been in falling health for the last year and a half, and since being stricken the latter part of September while visiting at Noonan, had been In critical condition. Members of the family, including Mr. Almy and their son Charles Almy of Minot, had visited her bedside several times when death was expected. She died at 1:30 p.m. yesterday.
In Minot 44 Years Ago
Forty-four years ago Mrs. Almy came from Crookston, Minn., to Join Mr. Almy, who as an engineer for the Great Northern had come to Minot the previous year, when the railway was pushing its thread of steel from Minot to Helena, Mont.
It was in 1872 that Mr. Almy had begun the railroading activities which continued uninterruptedly until 1919, when he was retired because of having reached the age limit. Since 1888 the family has lived in Minot, and both Mr. and Mrs. Almy have numbered many early day residents among their friends.
In 1929 Mr. and Mrs. Almy celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, when they were feted with receptions by the Eastern Star and railway groups.
Iowa and Minnesota
Mrs. Almy was born in Norway January 14, 1857. and came to the United States with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elllng Knutson, when but three years old. Her girlhood name was Bessie Knutson. The family located at Forest City, la., and later lived at Albert Lea and Crookston, Minn. It. was at Crookston that Mr. and Mrs. Almy were married on December 10. 1879.
The survivors, In addition to Mr. Almy and the two sons, Charles and Guy, are two grandsons, Duane and Robert Almy, and four brothers and two sisters. Three brothers, Theodore, Anton and Knute Knutson, live at Middle River, Minn., and the fourth, Edward Knutson is at Edlnburg, N.D. The sisters are Mrs. Mary Benson of Bemidji, and Mrs. Julia Benson of Mahnomen, Minn.
Mrs. Almy was a member of the Bethany Lutheran church and a charter member of Venus chapter of the Eastern Star.
The Rev. Marcus S. Lewis, pastor of Bethany church, will officiate at the funeral services which will be followed by burial at Rosehlll cemetery. Friends may view the body at the Thomas-Larson chapel until the funeral hour Monday afternoon.
