Mildred Gladys Anderson
Mildred Gladys Anderson, 92, died May 13, 2004, at Frasier Meadows Manor in Boulder. She was born Nov. 10, 1911, to Charles H. and Emma (Gould) Knutson in Longmont. She graduated from Erie High School and attended the University of Denver and Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill. She married Albert Isaksson March 14, 1935, in Longmont. He preceded her in death. She married Arthur L. Anderson Aug. 21, 1949, in Longmont. She was a church parish worker. Rev. and Mrs. Anderson established an American School for Missionaries children in Tanganyika, East Africa in 1952, through the Augustana Lutheran Church. They were instrumental in maintaining and expanding the school for 12 years. They returned to Greeley where Dr. Anderson received his Ed.D. and then to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan., from 1969 to 1975 and at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington, Kan., from 1975 to 1985. She was an extraordinary hostess. Their door was always open to family, friends and strangers. Mildred was a marvelous cook. She was even happy to teach her nieces and nephews the finer points of kneading Swedish rye bread and making the Swedish meatballs just the right size. They moved to Estes Park in 1985. Mildred was active in the Swedish Mid Summer Festival, Meals On Wheels and the Estes Park Lutheran Church. They loved their mountain home during retirement years, entertaining friends and family. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Longmont. Mildred will be remembered as the “favorite aunt,” the lady with a deep practical faith who served the Lord and His people. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, three brothers Warren R. Knutson, Joseph C. Knutson and Paul D. Knutson; and an aunt, Ruby C. Nelson. She is survived by two sisters, Vivian Turner and Eileen Metzger, both of Boulder; 11 nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Memorial Services were May 17, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Berke of the church officiating. Interment preceded the services at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rinn United Methodist Church sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street Longmont, CO 80501.
