Alice Nicie Wilson, well known and long term resident of Dolores and Montezuma Counties, died May 31 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez.

She was born August 13, 1912 in Reynolds County MO to Jefferson Daivis Knuckles and Clara Buffington Knuckles. She married Clyde Wilson April 5, 1930 and shortly thereafter they moved to the Dove Creek area.

During the next 67 years she lived in the Dove Creek area, Dissapointment Valley and Cortez as dictated by job opportunities. In true pioneer tradition, Alice joined her husband in grubbing sage brush and clearing farm land North of Dove Creek, and in the Ucola area.

Clyde passed away in 1959 in a tragic auto accident that also claimed the lives of her father and mother. In 1962 Alice moved to Cortez where she lived until her death. At Cortez, she switched from farming beans and wheat to raising cattle. Cortez and the Ucola area were her base of operation until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Wilson, her parents, and brothers Tom and John Knuckles.

Graveside services were held June 4, 1997 at the Peel Cemetery.
