Stanley H Knowlton, Sr., 89, retired Lynn firefighter
Mr. Stanley H. Knowlton Sr., 89, died Saturday, Feb 10, 2001 in Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the Rose S. (Burgess) Knowlton.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Stanley R. and Mary E. (Harold) Knowlton. He remained a lifelong resident of the city. He was a graduate of Lynn English High.
Mr. Knowlton was appointed to the Lyn Fire Department in 1940, primarily to Ladder One as a firefighter and remained there through his term as Lieutenant. He was transferred to Ladder Four upon reaching the rank of Captain and was promoted to District Chief in 1970. He retired in 1976.
He played baseball in his youth, and attended semi-annual Meadowlarks reunions. He was a Red Sox fan and was a charter member of Local# 739 IAFF.
Mr Knowlton leaves a son, Daniel K Knowlton of Beverly; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Stanley H Knowlton Jr. and brother of the late Sgt. Kenneth R. Knowlton, killed in action during World War II.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10.
The burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn.
