Doris M. Knotts DeSouza

PARKERSBURG - Doris M. Knotts DeSouza, 87, of Parkersburg passed away Saturday (July 21, 2007) at the Worthington Manor Nursing Facility.

She was born April 30, 1920, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Simon and Ethel Marshall Knotts. Doris was a 1938 graduate of Parkersburg High School.

She had previously worked at Cox's Department Store, the Wood County Sheriff's Department in the Tax Department, and Gates Furniture Store in Wayne, Mich. She was a charter member of the Parkview United Methodist Church, a member of the Wood County Historical Society, a member of the American Legion Post 15, the Women in Military, and was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II in the photography division.

Doris is survived by one daughter, Beth DeSouza of Parkersburg; one granddaughter, Briana DeSouza of Parkersburg; two brothers, Gene Knotts and Lee Knotts and his wife, Nelva, all of Parkersburg; two sisters-in-law, Mamie Knotts of Parkersburg and Barbara Knotts of Southport, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. DeSouza; two brothers, Stan and Paul Knotts; and two sisters, Helen Archer and Sarah Shumway.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green Street, Parkersburg, with Minister Stan Golden officiating. Interment will follow at the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with full military honors by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
