Charlotte Knost Klinke, 85, formerly of Battle Creek, died Thursday August 30th in Mill Valley, California, where she had moved in July 2010. Charlotte was born December 18, 1926 in Portsmouth, Ohio, the only child of Clyde and Dorothy (Kinsey) Knost. She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1944. She received her Bachelor's degree in Music in 1948, with a Diploma in Piano Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati. At the college she was active in Sigma Alpha Iota Professional Music Sorority. After graduation, she taught at the College-Conservatory. Charlotte married Arthur W. Klinke on October 23, 1948, at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, Ohio. After raising her children (first in Cincinnati and then in Battle Creek) to school age, she resumed private piano lessons in Battle Creek. In addition, she served as primary accompanist for the Battle Creek Community Chorus for 20 years. She had been active in Cub Scouts and Bluebirds when the kids were young, and also served in the PTA at Fremont and W.K. Kellogg schools. Prior to relocating to California, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, (Ruth Circle) as well as a member of the choir. She also served as a deacon and on the music committee. Art predeceased her on Friday, November 13th, 2009. Surviving are a son, Bill Klinke (Bethany) of Dexter, Michigan; daughters Ellen Adintori of Fairfax, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Steve) Suzuki of Mill Valley, California, along with grandsons Nick and Sam Suzuki. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 12th, at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, or the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.
