Carl was born to Johann and Caroline (Michehl) Knoll in Niles Center, Illinois. He was baptized on January 23, 1884 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Niles Center, Illinois by Pastor Gotthilf Simon Loeber. His godparents were Herman Knoll, Wilhelm Knoll, Marrie Stratmann, and Minnie Knoll.


It is not known what Carl died of in 1888. He was buried at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Glenview as a cemetery for St. John's Lutheran Church in Northbrook did not have a cemetery at that time. Carl's father, Johann Knoll was one of the founding father's of St. John's Lutheran Church in Northbrook, IL in 1886.


Church records were searched at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenview, both St. John's Lutheran Church in Niles and in Northbrook. No entries for Carl's death were recorded.
