Rosa Lee Buis, 91, died at 9:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab.
She was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Alexander, Ill., and was the daughter of Charles Harvey and Rosa Etta Andrew Knisley.
In 1939 she married Wilbur Whitaker and he preceded her in death in 1973. On May 21, 1977, she married George Buis and he survives.
She worked at Beverly Farms, St. Joseph's Hospital and for 22 years, at Alton Children's Clinic for Dr. Paul Pierce as a LPN until they retired.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Ballard of Carrollton. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; two stepgrandsons, Jason McCurdy and Joshua McCurdy; three stepgreat-grandchildren; cousins; her son-in-law, John McCurdy; and a special friend, Jean Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, parents and brothers, Jacob Knisley, Charles Knisley, Elmer Knisley and Edgar Knisley; one sister, Virginia Knisley; stepdaughters, Rebecca McCurdy and Melissa Buis and sister-in-law, Vera Wiegand and her husband, Albert, Bessie and Ed Lay; brother-in-law, Jesse Buis, Sr. and wife, Evelyeen, and sister-in-law Mary Hodge and her husband, Clinton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Greenfield.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
