Lavina was born in Ashland, Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania and moved to Philadelphia when she was 18 years old. She married Jack Knight and lived at 5043 Chancellor St. Her husband died in 1929. About 1957 she moved to Wildwood, New Jersey and settled at 204 E. Young Ave. She was a big woman who wore oxford shoes and was a store detective and/or a "bouncer" of some type. After her husband Jack Knight died, she lived with a boarder David L. Norman known to the family as "Brownie." He is listed as boarder living with her at 5043 Chancellor St. in the 1940 U.S. Federal Census. He was her consort and she left most of her estate to him after she died. Nominal monetary amounts were also left to her nieces and nephews: Marion Bauchop, Mrs. Edith MacLachlan, Mrs. Thomas W. McComb, Mrs. Bert Johnson, Mrs. George Gribbon, Mrs. Novella Robinson, Mrs. M. Fuentes, Mrs. William Curry, Mrs. Margurite Fisher, Mrs. Thelma Fisher, Mr. William Kiehl and Mr. Charles Kiehl.
