George Christian Kneller, 65, resident on Ind. 109 on R 3, died at 9:45 a.m. today, March 24, in Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Fla., following eye surgery Wednesday. Following surgery he suffered a stroke and he was seized with another stroke today.

Mr. Kneller in the mid-60's served as Democratic member of the Whitley County Election Board and he was a past chairman of the Whitley County Agricultural Extension Council.

He became ill at the Kneller winter residence at Okeechobee, Fla., and was transferred to the Miami hospital where he underwent surgery Wednesday for a tumor affecting his vision.

He was a Washington township native, born on Aug. 15, 1912 to Sherman LeRoy and Bertha Luecke Kneller. His marriage to Edith Caroline McLaughlin took place in the Jefferson township home of the late Rev. Arthur M. Gillespie on April 20, 1935.

His early years were spent in Washington township and he later moved to Jefferson township. In 1965 the Knellers purchased and occupied a farm in Thorncreek township on Ind. 109 three miles north of Columbia City, where they had since resided. His occupation was general farming.

As a yong man Mr. Kneller served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Church Council. He was also a member of Columbia City Lodge 189, F&AM, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne, Whitley County Shrine Club, and Forest Lodge, IOOF at Laud.

Surviving are the wife; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Kneller Loe, 702 South Line street, two sons, Larry Lee of 719 Moeller Road, New Haven, and Stanley Kneller of R 5; five grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Clela Richard, 702 South Line street, two brothers, Paul "Dutch" Kneller of R 5 and Sherman W. Kneller, Brownwood Apartments, North Whitley street.

The two sons, who went to Florida to be with their father and mother while Mr. Kneller was a surgical patient in Miami, are driving their mother back to Columbia City.

Funeral arrangments are still pending their arrival, but the body will be brought to the J.A. DeMoney & Son Funeral Home and the funeral service will be at a time to be announced later in Grace Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in the Eberhard Cemetery.
