EAST PEORIA -- Doris E. Curtis, 81, of 500 Centennial Drive died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 1994, at Methodist Medical Center.

Born Sept. 14, 1913, in Strawn to Herman and Edith Faragher Knauer, she married Kenneth G. Curtis on Sept. 7, 1940,in Strawn. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Allan (Carole) Spangler of Dunlap; one brother, Frank Knauer of Strawn; and two grandchildren. Two brothers preceded her in death.

She earned her bachelor of science degree from North Central College in 1935. She taught elementary school in Fairbury and high school in Odell. For 20 years, she was an assistant youth adviser for the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service. She also was a youth adviser in Grundy County. In 1974, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois Association Extension Adviser for her participation in the youth adviser program.

That same year, she received a citation for distinguished service to 4-H from the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Morris.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. The Rev. Ron Dickinson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Hawley Cemetery in Peoria.
