A celebration of life will be held Jan. 20 for Margaret Knapp Collins of Eugene, who died Jan. 8 of age-related causes. She was 99.
Collins was born June 3, 1906, in Seattle, to George and Alice Bird Knapp. She married Richard Collins on June 24, 1934, in Eugene. He died Feb. 6, 1985.
She lived in Seattle, Goldendale, Wash., and Aurora before moving to Eugene. She graduated from Woodburn High School in 1925 and from the University of Oregon in 1929, with a degree in English education. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She taught English at Parrish Junior High School in Salem for five years, and settled in Eugene in 1934.
She enjoyed bridge, chocolate, sewing, travel, study, cooking and reading. She belonged to PEO Chapter AY for 61 years and had served as chapter president in 1955 and 1972. She belonged to First Congregational Church for almost 80 years. She also belonged to two bridge clubs and Delta Zeta sorority.
She is survived by a daughter, Cathi Lutz of Wilsonville, and one grandchild. A son, Robert, died Dec. 8, 1965.
The Jan. 20 service will be held at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Eugene.
A chocolate buffet reception will follow and, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that people bring a favorite box of chocolates to share.
England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Private burial will be in Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene.
