Another of the pioneers of this county has passed away. Elliott Knapp departed this life at the home of his son, J. E. Knapp, in Denmark, Friday night, August 4th, after an illness of several months. Thus one of the highly respected citizens of this town has finished his labors on earth, Mr. Knapp was a son of Germon and Catharine Elliott Knapp. He was born in the town of Harrisburg, January 21st, 1831, one of a family of eleven children, June 1855 he was united in marriage with Miss Harriet Suits, youngest daughter of Thomas Suits, of the town of Harrisburg. She died May 20, 1908. He resided in the town of Harrisburg until the spring of 1873, when he moved to the town of Denmark, on the Cottrell farm on the East road, now owned by R. E. Peebles, where he remained until Oct. 1, 1908, when he moved to Denmark village, where he has since resided.
Mr. Knapp always followed the occupation of farming, and was one of the most painstaking and successful farmers of his day. Everything underhis charge was always kept in the most perfect shape; nothing was left undone. He was an honest, upright citizen, and gained the respect
and admiration of all who had formed his acquaintance. His daughter, Emma J. Knapp, died in July, 1900. He is survived by one son, Jay E. Knapp, of Denmark, and one sister, Mrs. Ellen M. Ryel, of Jamesville. His funeral was held Monday at 2 p. m. from the church, Rev. S. H. McKeen officiating.
The burial took place in Riverside cemetery, Copenhagen.
