She was the daughter of Cornelius and Agnes V. Killips Lenihan. The following excerpt is taken from her obituary, published in the Westfield Evening News, Westfield, Massachusetts:

" SOUTHWICK, ELINORE C. (LENIHAN) KNAPP, 84, of Southwick, died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Noble Hospital, Westfield. Born August 8, 1919, daughter of the late Cornelius G. and Agnes (Killips) Lenihan of Westfield, she graduated from Westfield High School in 1937 and received both her bachelor's degree in 1941 and her master's degrees 1964 from Westfield State College. Elinore began her teaching career in Sheffield where she coached a championship girls basketball team. She went on to teach in the Westfield School System at both Moseley and South Middle Schools, retiring in June of 1980. Elinore enjoyed the theater and starred in many high school and college productions. She belonged to several organizations in Westfield including the Women's Club, The Garden Club, the Westfield Educational Association, and was a long time member of the First Congregational Church. Elinore loved reading and was an avid bridge player. She was married for forty-two years to Harry L. Knapp who died in 1986."
