Girty
Velma L. (Klingensmith) Beattie, 86, of Girty, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at her home. She was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Girty, the daughter of the late Abner and Edna Graham Klingensmith. Prior to locating to Girty, she lived most of her life on Labellvue Road, in West Vandergrift. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vandergrift, where she was very active. She was a member of the Ladies Bowling League at Lee's Lanes, attended the Armstrong County Senior Olympics and was a master horseshoe player who enjoyed "Camp," where she had the distinction of being the best "campfire builder" in the family. She loved her Pittsburgh sports teams. Before her retirement, she was employed by Schenley. She will always be remembered for her devotion to family and was a loving and compassionate mother and grandmother. She is survived by sons, Larry E. Beattie and his wife, Mary Ann, of Washington Township, Randy J. Beattie and his wife, Christine, of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Pamela L. Flynn and her husband, Dennis, of Creekside; grandchildren, John Beanie, Leanne Smolinski and her husband, Jamie, and Ashley Brewer; stepgrandchildren, Steven Brown, Gerald Brewer, Lori Roush, Angela Jackson and Jennifer Peffer; great-grandchild, Mia Smolinski; 10 step great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosanna Kepple, of Vandergrift, and Zelda Riggle, of Spring Church; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Beattie; brother, Dewayne Klingensmith; and sisters, Hulda Mosbaugher, Willavene Stiffler, Eleanor Myers, Mary Morgan and Arveda Klingensmith. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME, North Apollo, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Keith Deckinger officiating.
Interment will take place at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
