William H. Klingensmith, 87, of Gilpin Township, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Armstrong County Health Center, Kittanning. He was born March 21, 1925, in Leechburg, a son of the late Albert H. "AB" Klingensmith and Helen G. (Wonders) Klingensmith. He was employed as a superintendent of The Roll Shop at Hyde Park Foundry for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a technical sergeant, Company E 142nd Infantry Regiment. He received a Purple Heart Medal, Eame Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal, and was also a POW. He was a member of Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg, the International Order of the Odd Fellows, life member of the Eagles Club in Ford City, member of Heath Township Sportsman's Club, member of the Gilpin Township Volunteer Fire Department, a member of church council and was also an usher. He was also a volunteer at the Leechburg Food Bank. His interests included going to his camp, hunting, fishing, hoe-down square dancing, was an avid softball player and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Phyllis S. (Slonaker) Klingensmith, of Gilpin Township; son, William P. Klingensmith (Lori), of Gilpin Township; three daughters, Nancy Fondrk (Robert Wilson), of Allegheny Township, Jeanne Rosenbaum (Donald), of Massillon, Ohio, and Linda Hawk (Robert), of Gilpin Township; eight grandchildren, Lisa Klingensmith, Lindsey Simon (John), Amie Yergin (Harvey), Aaron Rosenbaum (Alyssa), Heidi Allen (Clark), Ashley Klingensmith (Sheldon Loughner), Jason Hawk and Christopher Hawk; and two great-grandchildren, Brinley Yergin and Emilia Simon. Friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday by his family at CLAWSON FUNERAL and CREMATION CENTER, 170 Main St., Leechburg (724-842-1051) and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of funeral ceremonies at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 Main St., Leechburg with his pastor, the Rev. Kevin L. Mackey, officiating. Gilpin Township fireman's service will be Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, with military honors by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard in the chapel.
