KERRVILLE — Janie Beatrice Searcy Johnson Klein, 94, of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, in a local hospital.
She was born in Yancey, Texas, Feb. 22, 1918, one of a set of triplets, Jim, Janie and John Searcy, born to George E. Lee and Parilee Pauline Young Searcy. Janie was the last living of the 10 children.
She married Thomas E. Johnson in Bandera, Texas, on Feb. 23, 1935, who preceded her in death in April of 1976. Tommy and Janie moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in the spring of 1936.
Janie is survived by their five children, Jane Evelyn, wife of R.L. Buck of Kerrville, Patricia Ann, wife of Fred O'Brien of Rocklin, Calif., Nancy Pauline, wife of Steve Lines of Puyallup, Wash., Thomas E. Johnson III and his wife, Billie Jean of La Mirada, Calif., and June Beatrice, wife of Robert Sams of Temecula, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Raymond and his wife, Ann Buck, Robert E. Buck II, Janie and her husband, Jim Wycoff, Donald Rock, Carlie and her husband, Brian Zavala, Tommy Lines, Cheryl and her husband, Ted Thalier, Thomas Johnson III and his wife, Toni, Chris Johnson and his wife, Rosemary, Shaun Sams and Jason Sams. She also is survived by 14 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three stepchildren, Pat and his wife, Bonnie Klein of Stonewall, Sandy, wife of Steve Linn of Mesquite, Texas, and James and his wife, Sarah Klein of California; and four stepgrandchildren.
Janie was an avid golf player and won the Southern California Woman's Golf Tournament as well as a couple of Heart of the Hills tournaments in Kerrville, Texas. She often told people she had played every major golf course in the United States. Janie was a team supervisor at Douglas Aircraft in California prior to moving back to Texas when her husband retired. She and Tommy were active at Trinity Baptist Church, where Janie sang in the church choir. Janie loved music, and she was accomplished on the piano, violin and guitar. For many years she participated in the Jimmie Rodgers Jubilee, singing and yodeling while playing the guitar.
Janie married Rubin Klein from Stonewall in 1983. She and Rubin lived in Stonewall for a little over nine years, until his death. During that time, Janie taught an aerobics class and created an all-girl band called the Heart Breakers who played for various nursing homes and political functions. One of her proudest moments was when Ann Richards, governor of Texas, at her inauguration, asked Janie to play her fiddle for her. Janie and Rubin were Democratic Delegates for Gillespie County.
Janie was disappointed that Stonewall didn't have a Baptist Church, so she and several others founded the Stonewall Baptist Church, where she sang while playing hymns for each service until Rubin's death. Janie attended every music jam session in the tri-county area. Music was her life. She loved family and was happiest around family members. Janie moved to Kerrville, Texas, in 1995, where she promptly joined the D.C. Pickers Band from Dietert Center. She also formed the Janie Klein Pickers Band. She was always ready to help anyone in need. She will be missed by her loving family as well as many friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Grimes Funeral Chapels.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by the Rev. James Ennis. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
