Katherine L. Kitchings "Kitty" Jennings, of Irmo, widow of David D. Jennings, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, September 16, 2010, after a brief illness in Columbia.

Kitty was born on December 25, 1922, in Williston, SC, the youngest daughter of James Brantley Kitchings and Bettie Louise Fanning. Her mother died when she was two years old and she was then raised by her beloved step-mother, Lottie Grubbs Kitchings.

Kitty grew up on her family farm near Elko. After high school, she moved to Columbia to attend Columbia Commercial College. She then went to work for the State of South Carolina, S.C. Constabulary. She was then asked to work directly for Governor Olin D. Johnston as a secretary in his office. When Olin Johnston was elected to the U. S. Senate in 1944, she was invited to join his staff in Washington, DC, which she did. It was soon after that, in 1945 that she met and fell in love with her husband, David D. Jennings, a nephew of Senator Johnston from Greenwood County, SC. They were married October 12, 1946 in the Williston Baptist Church.

A life-long Southern Baptist, Kitty was an active member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Fairfax, Virginia. In 1971, when David retired as Postmaster of the U.S. Senate, the family moved to Columbia, SC. The family joined Temple Baptist Church where Kitty was an active member and secretary of the Lydia Sunday School Class until she moved to Agape Senior Care, in Irmo, SC in July, 2009.

Surviving are three sons, David D. Jennings, Jr. and wife Catherine of Fredericksburg, VA, William J. Jennings and wife Lorie of Columbia, John Andrew Jennings and wife Mary Mac of Charleston, grandchildren Jessie, Sarah, Matthew, Austin and Kate Jennings, Kate Bryant and Sarah Grace Jennings, nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by brothers Robert Brantley, George Llewllyn, Matthew Sullivan, Eugene, John Smith, and James Brantley, Jr. and Sisters Hazel Elloise, and Lulabelle (Birt).

Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
