Clara V. Hannon
Clara Vivian Hannon was born to Jack and Mabel Kitchings, May 4, 1913 on the Big Horn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming. She passed away on October 16, 2002.
She and her family moved to Bakersfield in the early 1920s to farm in the Old River area. She graduated from Bakersfield High School, Class of 1931, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Merle Hannon. In 1942 they moved to Vallejo where they both worked in the Mare Island shipyards. After WWII they came to Fresno and ran Will OWisp store at Huntington Lake from 1945 to 1950.
Clara was a great cook and homemaker. She worked also for Potters Drugs in the old Mayfair area and Jones Variety in the 1950s and 1960s. She then worked at home for her husband until she retired in 1982.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle (11-01-01); brother, Jack Kitchings and grandson, Curt Pempek.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Pempek; husband Gary, grandson, Keith Pempek, wife Karen; granddaughter, Kristie Pempek. Also great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Kelsey, Cassidy and Madison; two nephews, John Kitchings and Sterling Kitchings of Australia.
Services will be held at the Clovis Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at 12 noon. Interment following at Belmont Memorial Park.
