GASOLINE IRON EXPLODES; MRS. JAY WEIBLER DIES
Clothing Burned From Her Body

Mrs. J. E. Weidler is dead and four children are left without a mother's care, the result of a frightful accident Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the Weidler home a mile and a half southeast of Garrett in Keyser township. Mrs. Weidler was engaged in doing the regular weekly ironing, using a gasoline iron with which to do the work. The iron was not working well and she tapped it on the ironing board. The pipe leading from the container of the gasoline to the iron broke and an explosion resulted, throwing the gasoline over Mrs. Weidler's chest and throat.

She was immediately enveloped in a mass of flames. Running from the kitchen where she was ironing to another small building close by the house she slammed the door which attracted the attention of her husband who just happened to be at the barn a short distance away.

Looking up he saw his wife's clothing in flames and running to her he threw a coat which he had been wearing and other things around her in the hope of putting out the fire. He succeeded in doing this but not until her body had been so badly burned and the shock from the accident so great that recovery was impossible.

That she was fatally burned was at once recognized by the physician who was called. Her sufferings were intense for a few hours until she lapsed into unconsciousness. She passed away at 7 o'clock Thursday morning

Inez Josie Weidler was born Sept. 22, 1890, a daughter of August and Aldema Kistler who live on the DeKalb-Allen county line eight miles from the home in which she departed this life on Oct. 6, 1921.

Thirteen years ago she was married to J. E. Weidler and to them have been born four children, Robert A., Kenneth, Ruth and Vivian. The husband, four small children, parents and one brother, RusseIl J. Kistler survive.

She was a member of the Temple of Pythian Sisters of Garrett end of the Methodist church at Cedar Chapel.

The funeral was held at Cedar Chapel at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, the Rev. Dixon of Huntertown officiating. Burial was made in the Cedar Chapel cemetery.
