LUCILLE LEANNA BLAKE
Lucille was born on July 3, 1917, as Lucille Leanna Kirsch in Springview, Nebraska, to George and Gladys (Hudson) Kirsch. She attended elementary school in Burton, Nebraska and high school in Springview and Norfolk. She had an older brother who preceded her in death, and two brothers and a sister who followed her in life.
After graduation from Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska, she came to Jamison to teach at Spotted Tail School. While there she lived with the Hitchcocks and met her future husband, Luverne Blake. They were married in 1938. They lived in Jamison until they moved to Greegory in 1962. Lucille lived in Gregory almost twice as long as she lived in Jamison. She and her husband enjoyed family and friends at a little cabin on the Missouri River north of Bonesteel.
After her husband died in 1979, she continued to live in Gregory and lead a busy life. She had many friends and joined in Eastern Star, PEO and church activities. She preferred Gregory to many other choices that she had, but traveled to visits with her family members.
Lucile is survived by a younger brother and sister: Ralph of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Marilyn of Alexandria, Virginia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene and a brother George, Jr. who died at age 9.
Also surviving are her children, Lee and Lianne. Lee and his wife Joyce have lived in the Kansas City area for the past forty years and have three children, Bradlee, Leslee and Jon. Leanne lives in Golden, Colorado and has three children, Kim, Lisa and Blake. Kim Sonnenblick lives in Manhatten Beach, California, Lisa Cleary lives in Littleton, Colorado and Blake lives in Parker, Colorado.
Lucille was pleased to have been a member of the Eastern Star for over 60 years and pleased to have 17 grandchildren.
Lucille passed away on July 2 at 3:10 AM at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Her funeral was held at the Gregory United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 12. Burial was at Spotted Tail Cemetery south of Jamison. She exemplified the pioneering spirit that settled the population in the midst of the Great Plains of North America. Memorials may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation at PO Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89503. Online condolences may be made at www.kotrbasmithfuneralhome.com.
