Maye Kirby Black, of Purdon, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Maye was born in Tulia, Texas to Earl and Myrtle Kirby on Nov. 4, 1936. Maye married Buddy Black in Portales, N.M. on July 21, 1951. They spent the next 60 years raising their five children, building a business together, and making memories with a large, loving family.
For the past 24 years, Maye and Buddy have lived in Purdon. They drove a truck together, and when Buddy was injured, Maye continued to drive alone. Known as "Daisy Maye", she cut quite an imposing path up and down the highways of Texas. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and cooking; and was exceptional at both.
Maye was met at the gates of heaven by her parents; her son, Larry Black, her brother, Sonny Kirby; and her sister, Frances Hodges.
Maye is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lawrence E. (Buddy) Black; her children and their spouses; Eddie and Anita Black of Emhouse, Dale Black of Cleburne, Kathy and Randy Porter of Corsicana, and Kristi and Danny Guerra of Purdon; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Sue and Brad Hornung of Wichita, Kan.; her grandchildren; Lisa and Jason Lamb, Casey Black, Josh and Maggie Black, Ryan and Christin Black, Jessica and Carl Cason, Jennifer and Trey Rutschman, Nichole Black, Cody Black and Joanna Wylie, Kirsten Richie, Matthew Porter, Cory Porter and Haleigh Guerra; and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also susrvived by her sisters; Earlene Davis, Mary Evelyn Poe, Virginia Parker and Emily Young; numerous nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends Dorothy and Pinky Kincaid of Forreston, TX.
Visitation will be held on from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home Chapel in Corsicana, Texas with Rev. Les Mantonya and Pastor Josh Black officiating. Burial will follow at Younger Cemetery in Silver City. Pallbearers will be Eddie Black, Casey Black, Josh Black, Ryan Black, Cody Black, Cory Porter, Matthew Porter and Jason Lamb; honorary pall bearers are her great grandsons.
The family would also like to thank her loving sisters for all of the help and support provided during this difficult time. You are very much loved and appreciated.
