Ocala - Joseph Patrick Kirby died on May 24, 2010 at Hospice House in Holland, Michigan. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 18, 1919 to John and Ida (Powell) Kirby. He worked for the State Department before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps where he attained the rank of Major. After the war he worked for the City of Chicago for the senior Mayor Daley. Joe spoke often of the love and respect he had for Mayor Daley. Joe retired and moved to Ocala, Florida in 1983. He spent many happy years there with his beloved wife Maxine who preceded him in death in 1999. Joe is survived by a much loved daughter, Susan Victor (Matt) of Roscoe, Indiana; a faithful stepson, Phil Stull (Georgine) of Benton, Kentucky; and his dearly loved wife, Margaret Carlin-Kirby of Holland, Michigan. Joe was a gentle and loving man. He is greatly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a military funeral service will be held on Thursday July 8, 2010 at 10:00 am at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. All who knew him are welcome.
