MELVIN KINKENNON - 79
Melvin Kinkennon, 79, son of James and Esther ( Moore ) Kinkennon, was born May 23,1926 in Winterset, IA. He died May 19,2006 at The New Homestead, Guthrie Center.
He attended a one room county school in Guthrie Center at Cass #9. He was not allowed to continue his education after the 8th grade brcause working was more important at that time for lower income families. May 23,1969, he married Agnes Ori in Polk County. He worked for Standard Glass & Paint for 19 years, working as a glass cutter and in maintenance. He also worked for Distinctive Packing in Des Moines. He would help others while letting himself and his place go. He would give his shirt off his back.
He was a trustee and treasure for the Adel First Babtist Church and the Waukee Babtist Church.
He is survived by his wife Agnes of Waukee; daughters Rita Ray of Rantoul, IL and Julie Neiper od Creston; son Michael Kinkennon of Ridgecrest, CA; sisters Rachel Allie of Guthrie Center and Ada Wright of Colorado; brother Kenneth Kinkennon of Cromwell, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be May 27,2006 at Beidelman - Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. Burial will be in West Cemetery, Panora.

he attended a one room country school in Guthrie Center at Cass #9. He had to walk around 40 to 6 miles to and from school. He was not allowed to continue his education after the 8th grade because working was more important at the time for lower income families. He trained himself or was shown how to do things and he became a jack of all trades. He met Cathrine Foster who lived in Nebraska and they were married.. To this union three children were born. Cathrine died in 1966. He worked as a glass cutter for 19 years at Standard Glass & Paint. He married Agnes Ori on May 23,1969 and together they had one child. He had worked for Distintive Packaging before he retired. He worked hard all of his life and helped a lot of people. He was a cheerful and nice to a lot of folks.
He was a Babtist and served as a trustee and treasure for Adel First Baptist Church and Waukee Beptist Church.
He is survived by his second wife Agnes of Waukee, daughters Rita Ray of Rantoul, IL and Julie Neiper of Creston. Son Michael Kinkennon of Ridgecrest, CA. Seven grandchildren. Sisters Rachel Allie of Guthrie Center and Ada Wright of Colorado. Brother Kenneth Kinkennon of Cromwell, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife Catherine, daughter Carol Johnson, grandson James Belew, 2 sisters Lila and Darlene, and 2 brothers Paul Jefferson and Arthur Ray.
