Marilyn Kennedy, 73, of Kingston, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2008, at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre surrounded by her 14 children and extended family.

She was born July 21, 1934, in Kingston, a daughter of the late Carl and Helen O’Melia Gimber.

A graduate of Kingston High School and a life-long resident of Kingston, she was formerly employed by the Luzerne Intermediate Unit and Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in the Hospitality Shop.

Mrs. Kennedy was a member of Saint Ignatius Church, Kingston, and the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and Candy Stripers.

She was well known and loved by her family, friends, and all who met her. Mrs. Kennedy was featured in two newspaper articles in the 1980s titled “Supermom,” which detailed her raising 14 children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore Kennedy; and infant son Anthony.

The family would like to thank the staff at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre with a special thank you to Dr. William Kashatus.

Surviving is her children Patrick Kennedy and his wife, Marie, Plymouth; Bob Kennedy and his wife, Chris, Mount Cobb; Kathleen Lucci and her husband, Robert, Mount Cobb; Marilyn Rodgers and her husband, John, Forty Fort; Jacqueline Symons and her husband, Ralph, Edwardsville; Rose Pugh and her husband, Ken, Luzerne; Michelle Tavaglione and her husband, Joe, Wyoming; Mike Kennedy and his wife, Paulette, Shickshinny; Peggy Labar and her husband, Dave, Plymouth; Joseph Kennedy, Luzerne; John Kennedy and his wife, Christa, Fairplay, Maryland; David Kennedy, Kingston; Kelly Ann Christian, at home; Jennifer Stefanick and her husband, Ryan, Sugarloaf; 37 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one great-grandchild expected; sister Peggy Gimber Kiwak, Kingston; brother Carl Gimber, Lancaster, companion of nine years Charles (Rocky) Phillips.

The funeral will be held Thursday, January 31 at 9:15 a.m. from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Ignatius Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hoyt Library Building Fund, 284 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, PA 18704.
