Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Newton King of Atlanta, GA will be held Sat. Sept. 3, 2011 @ 11a.m., at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, 815 Fox Street, NW Atlanta. Rev. Darrell L. Edwards, Officiating. Interment Rest Haven Cemetery.
Marie was joined in marriage to Tommy King Jr. on November 19, 1949. To this union, one son and three daughters were born: Tommy III, Marie Barbara Jean, and Sylvia Ann. Shortly after the first child was born, Tommy and Marie moved to Atlanta, GA to begin their new life together. After arriving in Atlanta, she joined Greater Moses Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. M. Mann. She worked there faithfully on the Junior Mother Board.
In 1986, she moved her membership to Greater New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. S. Macon where she served faithfully on the Mother Board and under the current pastor, Rev. Darrell L. Edwards. Preceding her in death was her husband of 52 years, Deacon Tommy King Jr.; five sisters, Louise Mungin, Freda Newton, Rosa Lee Williams, Janie Brown and Inez Williams; four brothers, Charlie, Issac, Raymond and William; grandson, Bryan Clawson and great-granddaughter, Mahogani Forrest.
Surviving to continue her memory are four children: Tommy (Bieace) King III of Ellenwood, GA, Marie (Rev. Willie) Montgomery of Decatur, GA, Barbara Villigas of Jacksonville,FL, Sylvia (Larry Sr.) Spradling of Ellenwood, GA, two adopted children, Michael (Beatrice) King of Brunsick, GA, and Delon Lemons of Macon, GA, her eldest sister, Gladys Murray of Jacksonville, FL, two brothers, Samuel (Yvonne) Newton of Brunswick, GA, and Jonathan (Betty) Newton of Darien, GA, a dear cousin, Pauline Dorsey of Brunswick, GA, thirteen grandchildren, Michelle (James), Vaughn (Cere'), Matrice (Todd), Larry Jr., Keith Jamil, Reginald (Tammy), Rev. Willie Jr. (Arnetta) Alfred (Starr), Alfreda (Kieth Sr.), Kaila Reagan, Devin and Jacinta, sixteen great Grandchildren; Makenli, Kane', Isis, Mesi, Paris, Ciara, Hannah, Miles, Malcolm, Karl, Keith Jr., Jacob, Zora, Willie III, Branden, Joseph, two great-great grandsons, Markell, Joseph Jr., many cousins, brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews with Bettie Marie Royston (Jimmie) and Benny Newton (Marie) being the eldest, also a host of friends.
