Funeral services for Albert R. King, 76, kindly, veteran county and city employee and former auditor for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The Rev. Richard S. Thompson will conduct services at the Berean Bible Church, Scyene and Glover Pass. King was an elder in the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
The veteran city and county employee died of a heart attack Monday after leaving the office of Dist. Clerk Bill Shaw where he was a bookkeeper and filled in as a utility worker in almost every division. He fell into the aisle of a bus while on his way home. He lived at 704 Third.
The Ditrict Clerk's office will be closed from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for the services Wednesday.
King was a native of Little Rock, Ark., and moved to Dallas around the turn of the century. On June 14, 1906, he and the former Miss Linda Wright,a clerical worker at the telephone company, were married.
From 1927 to 1928, after he retired from service with the telephone company, King was manager of the Reynolds Prebyterian Orphanage in Dallas. In the 1930's he worked for several years in the district clerk's office. He worked as a temporary worker in the water department and a clerk in the tax department of the City of Dallas from 1941 until 1945.
He then became employed by Dallas County. King had worked in the District Clerk's office continuously since 1947.
King was well known to the city's attorneys. He was known for his extreme courtesy and willingness to accommodate everyone. Newsmen recalled that Saturday he stayed late so they could look at a petition.
Around the District Clerk's office it was traditional to call on the elderly employee with cotton white hair when any sort of machinery went wrong. He kept a supply of tools handy in his drawer for such occasions.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. O. T. Daniel of Dallas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
