David Hillyer King, Sr. passed away at Hospice Atlanta on August 2, 2009. Born in Athens, GA on Jan. 7, 1954, David moved back to Atlanta at one year old and resided and resided in Atlanta until his passing.

David attended Dykes High School where he was known for his athletic ability. David won the "Golden Toe" trophy for place kicking as well as being tapped into the Junior Jaycees where only 20 rising seniors were selected for leadership and academics. These were only a couple of honors to mention. In David's junior year in high school David was introduced to Young Life. This is when David began his personal journey with Christ. He became an active Christian through this wonderful organization for young people and was advocate of its influence for our youth.

David put himself through college on a baseball scholarship at the University of South Carolina. He pitched under Bobbie Richardson. After college David worked as a coach at Trinity School in N.W. Atlanta, where he met his future wife, Linda, who was a fourth grade teacher.

David later became a fine businessman in the marble and granite world. He began his career in the stone business in 1984 and worked in it until 2005 when health issues prevented his continuing. David was know for his charismatic and honest approach with people. He always extended himself to make others feel more comfortable. This character trait helped him to accomplish and secure jobs such as the Tweed Courthouse in New York, the SunTrust in Atlanta, The Rhode Island State House, The Buddhist Temple in Los Angeles, California, and Centennial Park in Atlanta.

David will leave his wife Linda, his three sons, David (wife, Megan, grandson David Hillyer King III), Cameron, and Linwood. His mother Ann King, sister Melinda Stewart, brother Douglas King and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Hillyer Clark King, Jr.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Hospice Atlanta or St. Josephs Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roswell United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Lane officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wed. from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by Roswell Funeral Home, Roswell.
