GEORGE KING
AVON - George King, 85, of 148 Main St. E.Avon, English - born, gardener and rose grower, died Dec.12 at Wayland.
Mr. King was born in Burenthorpe, England, and followed his two brothers to Caledonia when he was 20. He worked as a gardener in Caledonia and York before being employed as gardener at Charlton, the Avon estate of Col. Charles Z.Case, until he became ill. His specialty was rose growing and he was well known for the quality of his plants.
His wife, Belle Lythe King, died last year.
Mr. King was a member of Zion Episcopal Church and a past noble grand of Avon Lodge IOOF.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Wandersee and Mrs. Elmer Russel of Rochester; three sons, George of Batavia, Edward of Chili and Fred of Avon; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Kerrisan, and Mrs. Phoebe Owens of England; three brothers, Arthur and Fred of England and Robert of Caledonia; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday. Friends who wish may contribute to the Zion Church Memorial Fund.
