Obituary in The Shreveport Times September 16, 2010:

SHREVEPORT, LA - A Celebration of the life of Margaret "Marty" Bland will be at 10:00 am on September 17, 2010 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Bray, Sr. Pastor of Summer Grove United Methodist Church officiating. The Family will receive friends from 5-7 at Centuries Memorial on Thursday, September 16.

Marty was born on December 19, 1927 in Fremont, Ohio to Howard and Bessie King and passed away suddenly in her home on Monday, September 14. Marty met and married her high school sweetheart, Herb Dorfmeyer, in Fremont, Ohio, and they had 3 wonderful sons. At the age of 36, Herb was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease and lost his battle within six months of the diagnosis. In 1960 Marty met Lenhart (Len) Bland Jr., from Shreveport, LA who became her loving husband of 46 years. She along with her three boys, all under the age of ten, packed their belongings and moved to Shreveport begin life anew. Marty was a homemaker and a long-time employee of Gilson's Dress shop. She was an active member in her Sunday School Class, The Friendship Class, at Summer Grove United Methodist church for many years. Marty was very active and energetic particularly when it came to spending time with family. One of her many favorite things to do was baking, especially when it came to making cookies with great-granddaughters Caroline and Hannah Bland. She recently spent Labor Day weekend on Lake Ouachita with her family and friends enjoying the outdoors and riding wave runners.

Marty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Judy King; first husband, Herbert Dorfmeyer; husband Lenhart Bland, Jr.; and grandson, Jason Bland.

She is survived by one brother, Jimmy King; three sons, Douglas Bland and wife Frances, Mike Bland and wife Clarece, and Brad Bland; granddaughter in law, Jennifer Bland; four grandsons and four great-granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be her four grandsons, Aaron Bland, Adam Bland, Alex Bland, Andrew Bland, along with nephews, Demar Watson and Butch Rinaudo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Feist-Weiller Head and Neck Cancer Research in memory of her grandson Jason Bland, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
