Obituary for Sarah's husband:

Christian Haug

Christian Haug was born in Ostdorf, Württemberg, Germany Jan. 1, 1857 and died at his home near Brussels, Ill., July 11, 1919, at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 10 days.

He came to America in July 1882 at the age of 25 years. He was united in marriage to Sarah Anna Kinder of Brussels, Ill. On May 15, 1884 and to this union were born six children, namely; William, who preceded the father to the grave 8 years ago, Caroline, John, Edward, Benjamin and Selma survive.

In early childhood he was converted and united with the Lutheran church in Germany. After coming to this country he united with the St. Matthews Lutheran church at Brussels and was a faithful member of that church for thirty-seven years. A few months ago he ceased to attend church any longer because of confusion in the church. He worried over the affair so much that it caused him to take his own life.

Mr. Haug was an excellent neighbor, ready to assist anyone who was in trouble. When called upon to help any good cause he would gladly respond. He contributed liberally to the great Centenary grave which is being put over by the Christian churches of the world. He aided the government every way possible during the awful conflict which has just closed.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his death an aged mother, two brothers and one sister, in Germany and two brothers who reside near Brussels, Ill. and a host of friends who extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Funeral services were conducted at his home by Rev. F. M. Hodger, pastor of the M. E. church of Batchtown, Ill. He was laid to rest on a beautiful spot on his farm which he had selected many years ago as his last resting place.
