Ottis J.C. Kilgore
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Ottis J.C. Kilgore, 85, Attalla, who died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011.
J. C. Kilgore "Papa J.C.," Attalla, left us to be with God, his wife Virginia, daughter, Kathy, granddaughter, Deandra Michelle, and mother-in-law, Freddie Osborne, on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011.
Mr. Kilgore was the firstborn of six children to Chester and Luella Kilgore in Cullman County in 1926. He came to Gadsden when he was 16 years old, and worked at Dwight Mill, where he met and married Virginia Ann Osborne.
He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946. After the mill closed, he opened his own business, Kilgore Woodworks, making kitchen cabinets. He then opened the first business in this area making cultured marble, where he retired.
He was also a member of the Attalla Masonic Lodge and was a deacon at Malone Baptist and Bethel Baptist Church.
Papa J.C.'s lifelong love of fishing spilled over to his wife, daughters, granddaughters and great-grandsons. He loved to take them all fishing and loved to tell great stories about fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Kilgore; daughter, Kathy Kilgore; parents, Chester and Luella Kilgore; granddaughter, Deandra Bolding; mother-in-law, Freddie Osborne; four brothers; and one sister.
Survivors are his daughter, Sandra Kilgore (Kent Bolding); granddaughters, Kendra (Joe) Redding, Charity Haney, Malana (Jamie) Gilliland, Westina Russell; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Austin, J.J., Colton, Savannah, Miranda, Dalton, Carson, Collin; great-great-grandchildren, Carlie, McKenzie, Jordyn; special niece, Debbie Bishop; a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Loyd, Austin Loyd, Colton Haney, J.J. Redding, Collin Russell and Dalton Gilliland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
Burial in Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
