|Lydia Reitz Kiehl|
|Birth: ||Jan. 24, 1859|
|Death: ||Jan. 2, 1936|
This Lydia is thought to be the daughter of Isaac and Susanna Reitz, of Washington Twp., Northumberland Co., for two reasons:
1) Her dob agrees with that contained in a family bible initiated by her father, Isaac. It says (translated from German) "Lidia Reitz was born January 24, 1859, and baptised February 13th [by Rev.] Bergner"
This bible is still held in a Reitz family, one of Isaac's descendants. I have digitally scanned the record entry pages, but cannot decipher the German. The translation was found at the Northumberland County Historical Society.
2) A contemporaneous source states she married William Kiehl, and lived at Tower City.
Floyd's Genealogical and Biographical Annals of Northumberland County contains a write-up on Isaac, her father, already deceased. The subscribers to the book (pub. ca. 1910) were Isaac's sons Galen and Benjamin, so the following extract about Lydia would have been provided by them, her brothers.
"Isaac H. Reitz, son of Jacob, was born Sept.10, 1818, on the old Reitz homestead near Mahanoy Church...
...His children by [his second] marriage were as follows: Reuben is deceased; Lovina married (first) Edward Kantz, and (second) Morris Reitz, and they live in Sunbury; Galen is mentioned below; Lydia married William Kiehl and they live at Tower City, Pa.; ..."
Together, these two pieces of evidence convince me that this FindAGrave memorial is that of Lydia (Reitz) Kiehl.
