Batson, Margaret Anne (Kershaw) - 93, of New Ross; passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in the Mahone Bay Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born in Brigghouse, Yorkshire; she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elsie Kershaw. Margaret served in the Royal Women's Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War in the United Kingdom as an air plane mechanic, helped build Barrage Balloons, and was a Meteorologist Assistant. Margaret worked as a hair dresser in England prior to enlisting in the RWAAF. After settling in Canada, she sold Avon in Winnipeg, was a beautician consultant in Halifax, and a gym teacher in Summerside. When her husband retired from the Armed Forces, they started a business called "Forties Handcraft Centre" which they ran together for a number of years. She enjoyed reading, painting, hand crafts, gardening, watching television, and bird watching. She was a member of the New Ross Gardeners Club and the New Ross Legion Branch #79. Margaret had a tremendous love for animals and will be sadly missed by her cherished "Pusscat". She will be fondly remembered by her son Paul (Joyclin Coates), Timberlea; brother Anthony "Tony" (Margaret) Kershaw, Parr, Cornwall; and grandson Trevor. Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Nigel; and sisters Kathleen Prove and Barbara McCann. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Christ Anglican Church New Ross with Reverend Judi Phillips officiating; followed by burial in the Christ Anglican Church Cemetery. Family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Forties and New Ross communities for their assistance throughout the years with Nigel and Margaret. Also they would like to thank the VON and Home Care Services, Dr. Raymond, and the nursing staff at the Mahone Bay Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret's memory may be made to the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation, the New Ross Legion or the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 4935 Hwy#12, New Ross.
