CECIL D KERNS
OLDTOWN ‹ Cecil Darl "Paul" Kerns, 76, of Oldtown, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at his residence.
Born on Sept. 17, 1924, in Picardy, he was the son of the late John F. and Dessie Mae (Rice) Kerns. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse W. Kerns and Arthur Odell Kerns.
Mr. Kerns attended Oldtown Bethel Assembly of God Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and P.O.W. captured at the Battle of the Bulge on Dec. 23, 1944. He was a member of D.A.V. Chapter 2, Clifford B. Sisler Post #9451 V.F.W., Oldtown, and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. He was a former employee of the Western Maryland Railroad and retired from the Chessie System Railroad, after 34 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Maxine (McAtee) Kerns; one son, Leon Cecil Kerns and wife Symantha Kay, Hagerstown; one daughter, Sandra Kay Redinger and husband Russ, Cumberland; one brother, George A. Kerns and wife June, Berkley Springs, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Todd Leon Kerns and wife Kathy, Hagerstown, Dana Lynn Peake and husband David, Smithsburg, Michelle Lynn Redinger, Cumberland; four great-grandchildren, Kristen, Brandon and Sarah Peake and Matthew Kerns; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Collette Sr. and Pastor James N. Stemple II officiating.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Harlin Kimble, Russell Crabtree, Jim Crabtree Jr., Melvin Rader, Steve Davis and Ronnie Gross.
