Wilma Martha Franz, 85, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Sunday evening, February 6, 2011, at the Recovery and Care Center of Richfield Retirement Community of Salem, Va.
She was born in Baltimore, Md., to Fred and Eva Kerner and worked there for many years as a teller for Equitable Trust.
Wilma enjoyed riding trains, traveling, watching Soaps, reading, and the company of friends. She will be remembered by many for her good sense of humor and pleasant disposition.
She is survived by a son, William Donald Franz and wife, Paula, of Roanoke. Va.; a son, Frederick (Rick) John Franz, of Sykesville, Md.; a grandson, Eric Joseph Franz and wife, Katy, of Cleveland, Ohio; a nephew, Walter Hofferberth, of Baltimore, Md.; and a niece, Iris Burton, of Jacksonville, Fla.
Flowers may be sent to Oakey's South Chapel or for those preferring a memorial, please consider the Alzheimer's Association , Central and Western Virginia Chapter, Roanoke Regional Office, 3959 Electric Road, Suite 357, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Route 419. The Rev. Keith Beasley will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Prior to the services the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
