Ferry was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Benton, Ark., where she lived until she was 10 years old. She then moved with her family to Los Angeles, and as a young adult she moved to Sonoma County, Calif., where she lived most of her life. For more than 50 years she was married to William "Bill" Ferry, who survives.
At age 36, she returned to school, earned her GED, and went into medical training. She worked at Sonoma State Hospital for two years and felt a need to work one on one with the disturbed and challenged children. For the next nine years, she had a foster home for four children from the state hospital. She trained them and taught them life skills and each went on to function at a higher level and attended school.
In the fall of 1979, she retired and moved to Oregon with her husband.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, her pets, cooking, traveling, collecting dolls and crocheting afghans.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, William "Buck" Ferry Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif., and David Ferry of Gilroy, Calif.; two daughters, Lenora Davidson of Grants Pass and Rosemary Vigil of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Green B. Kent Jr. of Moscow, Idaho; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A son, Don Ferry, died April 1, 2005.
