Don B. Kemp
Don B. Kemp, 75, of Carlisle, died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Claremont
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Charlene (Boyd) Freeman Kemp and the late Frankie P. (Duckworth) Kemp, who died December 13, 1989.
He was born May 29, 1933 in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late Walter E. and Helen (Berry) Kemp.
He was a graduate of Lutheran High School, St. Louis and received his business management degree from LaSalle University. He began his work career as a stylist for International Shoe Co. in St. Louis, worked as Product Manager for Endicott-Johnson in NY, and became National Sales Manager for Mother Goose Shoes in MD and held the same position for P.F. Flyers in MA. He traveled the world buying leather, working with designers and establishing shoe factories for these companies. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion in Mt. Holly. In addition to being a world traveler, Don was an avid reader of Civil War and WWII history, a part time genealogist and a great animal lover.
In addition to his wife Charlene, Don is survived by two daughters; Gail S. Dropping and her husband Merle of Bradenton, Fl, and Linda K. O'Connell and her husband Paul of Leominster, MA, a son, Gary J. Kemp of Concord, GA, a step daughter, Elizabeth Freeman and her husband Michael Schirm of West Chester, OH, a step son, Jeffrey Freeman and his wife Rhonda, nee Verdon, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Sonia Kemp of Port Charlotte, FL and his cherished golden retriever, Prissy. He was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Ascoli and a brother, Edward Kemp.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 11 AM from Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 N. 23rd St, Camp Hill with, Rev. Dr. David Roquemore officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship hall. There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in New Oxford Cemetery at 2 PM. Military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Harrisburg, 7790 Grayson Rd, Harrisburg, PA or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N Progress Ave, Ste 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
