Marie Barlean was born in Spalding, Nebraska, on October 5, 1913 and passed away at the age of 29 years, 8 months and 20 days on June 25th, 1943, in the Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln. Her death came at 4 a.m. following a two weeks illness. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kelly.

On March 26, 1935, she was united in marriage to Orin Barlean. Besides her husband and two year old daughter, Sharon Kay, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Fern Rtterbush of Garrison and her two sisters, Mrs. Berneice Otto of Ulysses and Mrs. Phoebe Shandera of San Diego, California.

Mrs. Barlean was raised in this community and graduated from the David City high school in 1931. Before her marriage she was office girl for Dr. Donald Burdick 3 ½ years. She was a member of the Methodist church of Rising City, Nebraska, and was a home and family loving girl.

Funeral services were held from the Home For Funerals at 2:30 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, June 27th. Rev. Arthur Embree pastor of the Methodist church of David City, Officiated. Music was furnished by Lulu Jaenike, Joe Struebing, Wesley Glock and Mrs. John Glock with Mrs. Embree at the Piano.
The casket bearers were Dale Sweney, Dean Raitt, Roland Kelly, Myron Kilgore, Coyle Fadschild and Richard Ludvik. Burial was in the David City cemetery.

Those in attendance from elsewhere were Mrs. Victor Shandera and babe of Dan Diego, California, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Marshall of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Ritterbush of Columbus, Mrs. Don Rees of Summerfield, Kansas; Mrs. Melvin Stitt of Liberty, Nebraska; Mrs. Margaret Cramer of Hiawatha, Kansas; Verne, Floyd and Earl McLaughlin of Liberty, Nadine and Eva Stitt of Pawnee and Mr. Russell Merrill of Silver Creek.
