Funeral services for Lon H. Kelly, 67, prominent in legal and political affairs throughout the state, who died at his home Friday morning following a long illness, were to be held at his residence 1416 Quarrier street, at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Kelly was born at Sutton in January, 1871. He was graduated from Washington and Lee university in 1893. He was a former mayor of Sutton and held several offices in Braxton county, including that of prosecutor from 1897 to 1900. Later he was assistant U. S. district attorney and still later became district attorney by appointment of President Wilson.
Always active in Democratic party affairs, he was the nominee for judge of the state supreme court in 1924. He was a former secretary of the state Democratic committee and chairman of the Kanawha county committee. He served as president of the West Virginia State Bar Association and as district governor of Rotary International.
Rev. Wallace Alston, pastor, and Rev. Ernest Thompson, pastor emeritus, of the First Presbyterian church, were to officiate and burial was to follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mr. Kelly, who was a member of the law firm of Brown, Jackson and Knight, is survived by his widow; one son, Robert G. Kelly of the same legal firm; two daughters, Mrs. Joe W. Savage, and Miss Virginia Elizabeth Kelly, all of Charleston; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Hardman of Morgantown.

NOTE: Mr. Kelly was first married to Miss Bertha Gorrell of Sutton in 1897. She died in 1904.
In 1907, Mr. Kelly was married to Miss Nellie Kiddy of Buckhannon.
