Mrs. Mary Ellen Ball

A well known resident of Winthrop, was found dead in bed on Wedneaday moring, December 4, having passed away in the night, evidently about midnight at the home of her son Marshall, with whom she had been making her home for several years. She had not been in the best of health for the past few years, and although her death might have been expected it was a terrible shock to the relatives.
Mary Keller was born in Fairfield, Ohio December 1945. She was married to Marcus Ball April 3, 1861. Mr. Ball preceded her to the better land July 6, 1906. She leaves to mourn her death three sons and one daughter; Marshall L., William W., and Henry F., and Mrs. Esther Hoover.
The funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. C. S. Holland, pastor of the Congregational Church, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: Frank Thom, Jarvis Smith, H. C. Unbebaun Bert, J. H. Risely and Joseph Hekel.
The out of town friends who attended the funeral were Ephraim Keller and his wife and Mrs. L. Peyton of Walker; Eldridge Keller and Mrs. Will Fredricks of Tipton, J. Schaum and wife of Oelwein, Mrs. Frank Elliott and daughter Bonnie of Troy Mills, Mrs. Charles Church of Waterloo, Irvin Keller and wife, Stewart Keller and wife, Edward Keller and wife, Frank Keller and wife and Charles Andrews and wife of Troy Mills.

The funeral services of the late Mrs. Mary E. Ball, who passed out of this life last week Wensday Dec. 4, were held at the home of her son Marshall with whom she had made her home for several years. The services were in charge of Rev. Clyde S. Holland pastor of the Congregational Church on Friday afternoon, with interment in Fairview Cemetery where the remains were laid beside those of her husband, M. L. Ball who passed away some years since. The pabears were Bert Reed, Frank Thom, Jarvis Smith, J. H. Risely, H. C. Unbehaun and Joe Hekel.
Mrs Ball was of a kindly domestic nature one of those good motherly women, whom to know was to love and in her passing not only the family but the neighbors will greatly miss her. The biography was given in these columns last week.
Those from out of town who were here to show their last sad respects to the deceased were Mr. and Mrs. Ephriam Keller and Mrs. L. Andrews and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Keller of Independence.

Mrs. Mary Ball Dies Suddenly

On Wednesday moring Dec 4, Mrs. Mary E. Ball who has been residing in the home of her son Marshall was found dead in bed.
She has been in poor health for the past twenty seven years but seemed as well as she had been late when she retired, and although her death might have been expected the manner in which it came was a shock to the home.
Mrs. Ball whose maiden name was Keller was born in Fairfield Ohio Dec. 1845. She was married to Marcus L. Ball April 3, 1861. They made their home near Troy Mills until March 1882 when they moved to a farm in Liberty Township. She has lived in Winthrop for the past nine years.
Her health has gradually declined since the tragic death of her husband about six years ago. She leaves three sons and one daughter: Marshall L. , William W., Henry S. and Mrs. Esther Hoover.
In this sudden loss of a mother the family have the sympathy of the community.
