Doon, IA Delphine H. Kelderman, age 74, of Doon, IA, died on Sunday Feb. 10th, 2008, at the Sioux Center Hospital in Sioux Center, IA. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, Feb. 13th at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA. Burial will take place at 10:00 AM at Hillside Cemetery in Doon, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 12th from 2 " 7:30PM, with family present from 6 " 7:30PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. Delphine Harriet (Van Engen) Kelderman was born July 29, 1933 in Doon, IA, the daughter of Dick and Henrietta (Pap) Van Engen. She was raised near Doon, IA and attended the Doon Christian Grade School and Hull Western Christian High School. She was united in marriage to Lawrie Kelderman on February 8, 1952 in Doon, IA. The couple made their home on the family farm and lived there throughout their lives. She worked for various cafes in the area, which were Gunnick Caf in Perkins Corner, Central Caf in Sioux Center and the Corner Caf in Doon. She was a lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Churches in Doon and Rock Rapids. She enjoyed playing organ and crocheting afghans. Time she spent with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids was very dear to her. She also had a talent for baking such things as cinnamon bread and chocolate chip cookies, which were the best around. Delphines husband, Lawrie died on October 1, 2002 after 50 years of marriage. At the end of May 2007 Delphine was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. She battled this disease valiantly and on November 19, 2007 was given a clean bill of health. On January 8, 2008 a brain tumor was discovered which eventually took her life. This past Sunday, February 10th Delphine died at the Sioux Center Hospital in Sioux Center, IA. She is survived by her five children, Dennis (Marsha) K. of Doon, IA, Eric (Renae) K. of Pierre, SD, Aaron (Lavonne) K. of Doon, IA, Pat (Greg) M. of Sioux Center, IA, and Tami (Kevin) T. of Baltic, SD; a daughter-in-law, Marge (Doug) D. of Sioux Center, IA; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale V. of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Norman (Lucy) V. of Alta Loma, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Henrietta Van Engen; her husband, Lawrie Kelderman; a son, Larry Kelderman; a great-grandson, Jesse Doorenbos, three sisters, Nellie Bonestroo, Judy Rozeboom, and Jan Baartman.
