Frances Louise Carpenter SAN MARCOS -- Frances Louise Carpenter passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Tri City Hospital in Oceanside.
Born in Missouri on July 7, 1919 as Frances Louise Keithley, she lived her very early years in Missouri and later moved to Huntington Park, California, where she met her late husband, Charles Albert Carpenter.
They were married on November 28, 1935 and are celebrating their 76th anniversary together today.
They have been apart since Charles' death in 2002.
Frances and Charles made their lifelong home in San Marcos beginning in 1944 when they purchased a ranch for the purpose of raising chickens and selling eggs. That was where they raised their son and daughter, Charles Albert Carpenter IV of Escondido, California, and Sally Diane Carpenter (Coons) of Simi Valley, California.
When her husband became the Fire Chief of San Marcos, Frances went to work in the Physical Education department at Palomar College. Having been blinded by macular degeneration, Frances became dedicated to the Vista branch of the San Diego Center for the Blind where she traveled once a week to help others who suffered from blindness.
She is remembered for her uplifting, positive, and caring spirit; her wonderful and far-reaching ability to help others; and most of all, her warmth and compassion.
In addition to her son and daughter, she is survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no public memorial service. Ashes will be scattered at sea.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vista Chapter of the San Diego Center for the Blind, 1385 Bonair Road, Vista, California 92084. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com
