Dorliss Dean Elmquist, the daughter of Harry Dell and Golda Wilson Keith, was born March 9, 1921, at her parent's home in Melville Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died July 2, 2010, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 23 days.

Dorliss was baptized in June of 1921 and confirmed March 29, 1931 at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She attended rural schools in Melville Township and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1938.

Dorliss took Normal Training and received her teaching certificate. She later received her Bachelor Degree in Teaching in 1965 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She began teaching rural school in 1939 in Oakville east of Elk Horn, Iowa then taught in Melville Township from 1940 through 1942.

On December 12, 1943, she was united in marriage to Leo E. Elmquist at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Leo was serving in the U.S. Army and Dorliss taught school in Kimballton, Iowa at that time. Two children, Louise and Phillip were born to this union. In 1948 she took a break from teaching to raise her family. Dorliss returned to teaching in 1955 first teaching at Sharon #5 and in 1956 teaching at Sharon #6. She taught in Douglas Township, the Gray Consolidated Schools and later transferred to the Audubon Community Schools. She retired from teaching in 1986.

During retirement she enjoyed babysitting for her grandchildren and was very active in many organizations.

Leo died October 10, 1990. Dorliss lived on the farm until 1993 and then moved into Audubon.

Dorliss was a life long active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She served as an Elder from 1995 through 1998 and was a Deacon from 2004 until 2007. Dorliss and Leo were members of the Mariners and she was a member of the Presbyterian Women.

She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the American legion Auxiliary. She belonged to the Sunshine Club, the Garden Club and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Dorliss enjoyed playing cards and was a member of many card clubs.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Leo was her brother; Merrill and his wife Lucy Keith.

Survivors include her children: Louise and husband Dr. David Uehling of Beaufort, South Carolina and Phillip and wife Anna Elmquist of Audubon, Iowa; her grandsons: Joseph and wife Brittany Elmquist of Audubon and Bryan and wife McKenzie Elmquist of Ankeny, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Lane and Leyton Elmquist both of Audubon; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Robina Elmquist of Exira, Iowa; Mabel Riley of Otho, Iowa; Elvina Nelson of Peoria, Arizona; Merlyn Petersen of Roseville, California; nieces, nephews, many cousins other relatives and friends.
