Dorothy Keenan, the youngest daughter (of nine children) of Mike and Martha Keenan was born August 3, 1918 and graduated from Durham High School on June 10, 1937. She reported to duty on February 8, 1943 as a 2nd Lieutenant RN Army Nurse Corps at Sacramento, CA. She had received her training as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento prior to her induction. She was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre based in New Caledonia and in the Philippines. She visited New Zealand and Australia while on her tour of duty with the 109th Station Hospital as she was on general duty for transport ships and field army hospital stations.

Dorothy was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Chief Nurse on June 19, 1945 while at the 373rd Station Hospital – Headquarters Island Command. She was discharged at the Separation Center at Camp Beale, California as a member of the 373rd General Hospital on December 20, 1945. She returned to private practice nursing and was the wife of Oscar Cook and mother to Amelia and Fred. Considered by the members of her family as "always the strong and caring one" she is remembered as a "dedicated and loving wife and mother." She died April 28, 2003.
