Majora M. Alfredson, age 97 of Big Rock, IL, passed away peacefully at the Rosewood Care Center, St. Charles where she was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 6, 1910 in Sandwich, IL the daughter of George W. and Mary E. (Winslow) Keeler. Majora grew up in Sandwich where she attended local schools and graduated from Sandwich High School with the class of 1928. Following high school she began working as a secretary at the Pioneer Products Company in Plano.
On October 4, 1932, she was united in marriage to Harold Alfredson in Aurora. For the next ten years, they made their home on the Alfredson family farm in Sugar Grove where Harold farmed with his father until he and Majora were able to farm on their own.
For some 39 years they shared the joys, the toil and the hard times of farming together. When it came to cooking for the harvest help, she was known for a great meal and her "imaginative cooking". She also enjoyed all types of hand-crafts from latch-hook rugs to corn husk and apple dolls.
Majora was past president of the Kane County Home Extentsion and secretary of the Kane County Fair Board. She also served on the 4-H Center Board and the Kane County 4-H Committee. She was also a long time member of the English Congregational Church, Big Rock and was the oldest living member of the church. She was also a member of the 708 Mental Health Board and the Election Board.
She is survived by two children,Susannah (Wayne) Lee of Big Rock, IL, and Harold (Joanne) Alfredson of Hinckley, IL; Affectionately known by all her grandchildren as "Grandma Topper", she leaves five grandchildren, Cheryl (Scot) Kelly of Ottawa, IL, Timothy (Debbie) Alfredson of Hinckley, IL and Matthew (Kandace) Alfredson of Yorkville, IL, Mark (Marcia) Lee of Big Rock, IL and Jennifer (David) Bayler, both of Big Rock; two step-grandchildren, Katherine (Randall) Simpson of Mendota, IL and Victoria Jones of Hinckley, IL; eight great-grandchildren: Cheryl and Scott's family: Tiffany (Nicholas) Cechowicz (and their baby-on-way), Andrew (friend: Katie Ryba) Kelly; Timothy and Debbie's family: Justin and Maggie Alfredson; Mark and Marcia's: Megan and Morgan Lee; Jennifer and David's family: Sarah and Michael Bayler; four step great-grandchildren: Katherine and Randall's family: Amanda, Katelyn and Garrett; Victoria's daughter: Hannah.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and four siblings, Mabel Norem, Amy LeGarre, Helen Wilhelm and George Keeler; one granddaughter, Kristen Alfredson Confer; and one niece, Minnie Duckett.
