Cumberland,Maryland --- Cora Eleanor (Keefer) Bennett, 89, of Cumberland, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born on Dec. 12, 1910, in Thompson Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lewis Jefferson and Margaret (Peck) Keefer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Silas "Tommy" Woodrow Bennett on June 9, 1987.
Mrs. Bennett had worked in the West Side School cafeteria for 13 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she had been a deaconess, member of the church choir, and Sunday school teacher for the kindergarten class, Bedford Road Homemakers Club, Cumberland Senior Citizens, Allegany County Homemakers' Chorus and a member of the September Singers.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Sue Bennett, Cumberland; her loving pet dog, Pepper; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Taylor officiating.
Interment will be in the Fairview Christian Church Cemetery, Artemas, Pa.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Bennett's nephews, Louis Windemuth, Kenneth Windemuth, James W. Hardinger Jr., William DeSwarner, Ronald Lewis and Doyle Bradshaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Hardinger and Glenn Hardinger.
The family requests memorials go to the Preservation Memorial Fund of the First Christian Church, 312 Bedford St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
