He ws born in Warsaw, Indiana in 1919 and graduated from Mishawaka High School where he bgan his career in engineering and tool design. He served with the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 and with the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1949. After 1951, he was employed in various phases of the aerospace industry.
He retired in 1984 as manager of manufacturing for JetAir Inc. in El Cajon, CA, where he contributed to the development of the space shuttle.
Mel, as he was called, was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Good Sam, Klamath Basin Gems and a life member of both the VFW and DAV.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Klamath Falls; daughter, Eugenia Keefer of Vista, CA; and Herschel W. and Fraces Keefer and their daughter, Cathy of Morgantown, IN.
